Summer is almost here and that means a new season of the new breakout show, The Strain.
The first season of FX’s vampire series The Strain, created by Guillermo Del Toro, was a total surprise. It was fun, fantastically gross, and was occasionally scary. Sure, the script is not the best and some scenes are painfully cheesy, but it did succeed in delivering high quality visual and special effects. It’s definitely better than other horror TV shows. Its vampires remind me of Blade 2’s hybrid: part bloodsucker, part zombie, and part nightmarish creature with a projectile tongue. They don’t infect you with just a bite but with a simple scratch, you’re already carrying a parasitic worm that multiplies inside you and eventually turn you into one of them.
The season 2 trailer teases NYC being completely overrun with vampires but our heroes are not ready to give up just yet. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) seems to have discovered a way to stop the infection. It also looks like they’ve improved the effects even more, making me very excited to see the new season.
