UFC Fighter Jon Jones Turns Himself In But Already Out on Bail

The MMA world got hit with a whirlwind of a news involving Jon Jones, yesterday. From being wanted for questioning in a hit-and-run accident, to subsequently being named a suspect, to then having a warrant issued for his arrest – the UFC light-heavyweight champion finally gave himself up. However, after only a few hours, he's already out of jail on a $2,500 bail.

Jon Jones was involved in an accident early Sunday morning. Witnesses stated that a silver Buick SUV ran a red light and struck a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old pregnant woman. The man driving the SUV (Jones) ran from the SUV before returning, grabbing a handful of cash and fleeing again.

One of the witnesses, an off-duty police officer who identified Jones, inspected the SUV and within it, found a marijuana pipe, marijuana, and rental paperwork linking the vehicle to the fighter.

The pregnant victim was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. However, after a medical exam, police confirmed the woman suffered a broken arm, and Jones' misdemeanor status were subsequently elevated to felony. If found guilty, Jones could be facing a maximum penalty of up to three years in jail and fines.

Afterwards, his lawyer, Vincent Ward told koat.com "He wants to get down to training for this fight he has. He wouldn’t want to be dealing with this right now, but he’s a great guy. He’s taking all this seriously.”

No further statement from UFC has been released as of yet, and no changes made to his upcoming bout, which begs the question, how destructive does Jones have to be before the UFC deliver a more serious punishment to him? How long will they cover for him? If he was one of the lower tier fighters, UFC would've cut him in a blink of an eye. Will they go the moral route or keep their precious cash cow? I guess  we'll find out soon enough.
